There might not be a more intriguing team heading into the 2024 college football season than the Colorado Buffaloes, who are entering their second season under head coach Deion Sanders. They got off to a hot start last year before fading down the stretch, and Sanders has done more heavy lifting in the college football transfer portal again this offseason. The Buffaloes return several stars to the Colorado football roster like quarterback Shedeur Sanders and two-way athlete Travis Hunter, who will be playing behind a revamped offensive line. They also added players up front defensively, giving them a strong foundation for the Colorado football depth chart.
Players can no longer enter the spring transfer portal, but there are still uncommitted players who will make their decisions in the coming months. Colorado still has Colorado football lineup spots to fill, so they are one team to keep an eye on as summer approaches. Colorado football roster departures
There are a couple of notable departures from Colorado’s offense this year, including running back Dylan Edwards. He was a major playmaker for the Buffs in his freshman season, rushing for 321 yards and one touchdown on 76 carries and reeling in 36 catches for 299 yards and four more touchdowns. Unfortunately for Colorado, Edwards committed to the Kansas State Wildcats in April, so they will have to rely on the college football transfer portal to fill that void.
Fellow running back Sy’Veon Wilkerson has also moved on from the Colorado football roster. The former Jackson State back saw a dip in production this season, going from 1,167 rushing yards and nine TDs in 2022 to 190 yards and three TDs last year. Wilkerson entered the transfer portal in April and committed to Georgia State on May 5. Join BuffStampede.com to see the latest on all of Colorado’s roster changes.
Colorado football news, roster
Colorado has added 13 new players this spring, replacing a plethora of starters who left the program. The Buffaloes had already made a major splash in the portal during the winter, adding transfers like Vanderbilt wide receiver Will Sheppard and FAU wide receiver LaJohntay Wester. They added another key player when Ohio State running back Dallan Hayden committed this spring, giving Shedeur Sanders more athletes around him.
He will also be playing behind a new offensive line, as four offensive linemen have committed since April 20. The Buffaloes added five offensive linemen in the winter, so they have certainly tried to address one of their weaknesses from last season. Colorado’s latest transfer commitment came from Florida A&M linebacker Johnny Chaney Jr., who was a second-team All-SWAC player last year.
